Alone with the dust and kudzu and the heat. Three little red-breasts on a palm-polished branch. Exchanging bright operettas as the azure melts into amber. A banded garter snake wending it's way across scalding asphalt. A thin, neon-blue ribbon of a dragonfly. A drab gray train stuck to it, end-to-end, in the unfortunate arrangement of mating. Washing my hands and face in an uncommonly clear river. Just out of reach, long reed tendrils appear to lash the river; mossy green tentacles slapping the water wake in dissatisfaction. Stripping naked, and wading into waterweeds. Fettered by gentle emerald cords, I'm drowned to sleep by the emerging starlight.
