A gypsy ties a rain-stained note to a carrier pigeon with two heads. She releases it with much fanfare and gnashing of teeth. It plummets to the ground, gray feathers stained red. Neck snapped, a haphazard cord of retrieval all but a tanglewire amongst feathers. The note ruined, and only partially salvageable. The recipient reads only predictability and confusion when it finally arrives.
She hides her shame in a cascade of scarves, and distractions, and brittle, brittle consonance.
