I stalked treasure under a bright but starless sky. Murmurs and laughter lent cover to my skulking. I passed easily with a muted and nondescript face. I found my golden prize beneath a bench bearing half-lidded eyes and a mouthful of smoke. She opened her phone to show me stillshot of radioactivity. I gathered her in my arms, and shushed that fetal form to sleep with too-tight hugs and an infinity of patient presence. I recited an old proxy promise to have the heart-disease, since she claimed the cancer.
