I met a young woman I danced with once as a stranger. She was barefoot and lithe. I was stern, with beaten sneakers. Years passed. We saw each other every other day. I ascended another pinnacle with little fanfare, and found her there. I felt little satisfaction, sitting on a peak of pale snow.
