A return to an empty school after a decade of wandering. The concrete and chain link fences standing in unchanging sentry. I run my hands over the failures of my youth. Fractured bones, sprained ligaments, all waiting in the back of my mind. The sky burns yellow and orange, and my feet are lighter than than ever were in my twenties. A brittle body weeping openly in the neverending heat. Smeared footprints on off-white rooftops as the only trace of passage. The only memory that will remain are the accidental bloodstains on the charcoal bricks. Washed away by the eventual indifference of The Fall.
