Cars with fading paint rolling slowly down the half-melted blacktop. Rusted metal glinting incriminatingly against the fading sunset. Hunks of metal piloted by consumer zombies, adrift. DeliberateDanglingParticiple.exe. Coaxed from their squalor to peruse piles of gutter detritus. Nudged forth by the crushing weight of socioeconomic inequality. And boredom. Mostly boredom. In a world where the message of the medium has become scrambled and overwhelming, the default is a retreat to procurement of other people's garbage. Better than rioting. But only just. Since both activities are in aid of preserving the system.
