Shards of sunlight staining my eyes and the world a violent petina of gold. A long-unvisited running trail, scorched and littered with the bones of the homeless. A disinterested skunk shuffles through the ash. Turtleshell cats alternate between casually attentive, and strategic lounging. The whole world subdued in the settling California heat. Miles of tiny fences lacking a reason. The murmuring comes with the stars. Sturdy tees grown in the absence of years. The end of every loop a microcosm for the finale of my life.
