I wandered at just more than a stagger through a summer snowglobe trail. The only other wanderers I met were there by accident. We nodded politely to one another without looking too closely. All the while crowding close into the shade.
I stopped at a pair of half buried sandals. Discarded in a hurry. White straps stained sepia. I pretended they were the discarded thongs of my exiled porcelain doll. Dressed in regal finery for Halloween debauchery. Hair braided with dragon's wings, arms clasped with golden coils. Staggering drunk down a wooded path in all her disheveled disgrace. Shoes falling from her feet and tears falling from her eyes as the dusk light fell from the sky.
